Julio Bocca (born March 6, 1967 in Munro, Buenos Aires Province ) is an Argentine ballet dancer .

Life

Born in the greater Buenos Aires area , he began taking ballet lessons at the age of four. At the age of seven he was accepted into the “Escuela Nacional de Danza” and one year later moved to the “Instituto Superior de Artes” of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

There he was quickly noticed by his above-average talent and in 1981, at the age of 14, he joined the “Compañía de Ballet de Cámara del Teatro Colón”. A year later he was already performing as a solo dancer in a Flemming Flindt production . In 1985 he won the gold medal in the International Ballet Competition in Moscow and was offered a job at the American Ballet Theater (ABT).

In 1990 his dream of his own company, the "Ballet Argentino", came true. Bocca is the artistic director of this company, which performs both in Argentina and abroad.

In his choreographies, Bocca mixes classical ballet with tango . In 1998 he appeared in the film "Tango, no me dejes nunca", through which he gained a new audience. He often worked with the tango choreographer Ana Maria Stekelman .

He gave his farewell performance in the ABT production of “Manon” on June 22nd and 23rd, 2006. He then danced in his own company, but at the end of 2007 he finally retired.

In March 2007 his biography "La Vida en Danza" was published.
