Franz Bernreiter (born February 13, 1954 in Bärnzell ) is a former German biathlete and currently a biathlon trainer.
Franz Bernreiter from WSV Rabenstein is one of the most successful German biathletes of the first half of the 1980s. He took part in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and won the bronze medal together with Hans Estner , Peter Angerer and Gerhard Winkler in the German relay team as the starting runner behind the teams from the USSR and the GDR. At the Biathlon World Championships in Lahti in 1981 , Bernreiter, together with Angerer, Andreas Schweiger and Fritz Fischer, won the silver medal behind the GDR relay and ahead of the team from the Soviet Union as the final runner in the BRD relay. In 1984 he won the German championship title over 20 kilometers. After his active career, Bernreiter became a trainer and looked after not a few well-known German biathletes. Since the mid-2000s he has been part of the national coaching staff for Germany and is responsible for the men's C-squad. Among other things, he was team leader for the German biathletes and cross-country skiers at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Canmore .
