Andreas Schweiger (born June 10, 1953 in Schwangau ; † November 5, 2018 there ) was a German biathlete .

Career

Andreas Schweiger was one of the most successful German biathletes towards the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s , although he did not play at the Olympic Winter Games . In 1973 he started his service for 13 years in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Mittenwald . At the biathlon world championships in Hochfilzen in 1978 he won the bronze medal together with Gerhard Winkler , Hans Estner and Heinrich Mehringer behind the teams from the GDR and Norway. In the same year he had taken third place in the 20 km individual at the first competition of the newly created Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding. In 1978 and 1979 Schweiger was German champion in the 20 kilometer competitions. In 1981 the Federal German relay team won the silver medal behind the GDR and ahead of the Soviet Union at the biathlon world championships with Peter Angerer , Schweiger, Fritz Fischer and Franz Bernreiter . In the 1982/83 season , Schweiger took second place behind Angerer and ahead of Frank Ullrich and Matthias Jacob in the Biathlon World Cup race (individual) in Ruhpolding , five weeks later in the individual in Oslo he was third behind Dmitri Wassiljew and Johann Passler , it was his last podium finish in the World Cup.

After his active career, Schweiger returned to Schwangau in 1988. He became a coach and local politician. As a cross-country trainer, he was involved with TSV Schwangau and operated a parking lot as a tenant.
