Leopoldo Federico (born January 12, 1927 in Buenos Aires ; † December 28, 2014 there ) was an Argentine bandoneonist and tango composer .

life and work

Federico took lessons from Felix Lipesker , Carlos Marcucci and later Francisco Requena . In 1944 he took part in recordings of the orchestra of Juan Carlos Cobián . He briefly played in the Alfredo Gobbis and Victor D'Amarios orchestras before joining Osmar Maderna's orchestra in 1946 . The following year he joined the orchestra that Alberto Marino had founded under the direction of Emilio Balcarce . He also worked with Mariano Mores and Héctor Stamponi , and later with Carlos Di Sarli , Osvaldo Manzi , Lucio Demare and Horacio Salgán .

In 1952 he founded a duo with the pianist Atilio Stampone . With the singers Antonio Rodríguez Lesende and Carlos Fabri they performed arrangements by Argentino Galván . In the same year, the TK label released the tangos Tierrita and Criolla linda . In 1955 he succeeded Roberto Pansera in Astor Piazzolla's Octeto Buenos Aires . He continued to work as the accompanist of the singer Julio Sosa , with whom he recorded 64 tracks for CBS Columbia, and made the first recordings in 1959 as the conductor of his own orchestra.

After Sosa's death, Federico worked with numerous other soloists, for example with the guitarist Roberto Grela in the Cuarteto San Telmo and with the singers Carlos Gari , Roberto Ayala , Laura Esquivel , Aldo Fabré , Mariano Leyes , Carlos Alcorta , Yoichi Suigawara and Eino Gron . Federico's more than fifty compositions have been performed by Astor Piazzolla, Horacio Salgán and Osvaldo Pugliese and their orchestras , among others .
