Andrea Vitali

Andrea Vitali (born February 5, 1956 in Bellano ) is an Italian writer and doctor. Vitali attended the Liceo "Alessandro Manzoni" in Lecco and then studied medicine at the University of Milan . He practices as a doctor in his home village.

Since 1990 he has published short stories and novels. In 1996 he won the Premio letterario Piero Chiara with L'ombra di Marinetti . In Italy he had success with Una finestra vistalago in 2003 and received the Premio Grinzane for it in the following year. In 2006 he won the Premio Bancarella for the book La figlia del Podestà . Further prizes such as the Premio Boccaccio and the Premio Hemingway followed in 2009.

Vitali describes village and small-town life in northern Italy during the 20th century. The Signorina Tecla Manzi is a type of detective novel set during Italian fascism . His books have been translated into several European languages.
