Andreas Beelmann

Andreas Beelmann (* 1962 in Haselünne , Emsland) is a German psychologist . He is professor at the Institute for Psychology at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and heads the department for research synthesis, intervention and evaluation. At the same time, he is the director of the Center for Right-Wing Extremism Research, Democracy Education and Social Integration (KomRex). Beelmann studied psychology, sociology and health sciences at Bielefeld University between 1983 and 1990 . There he received his doctorate in 1994 and completed his habilitation in 2001 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 2004 he was appointed professor at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

In his academic work, Beelmann advocates development-oriented prevention of problems in childhood and adolescence. Findings about normal and deviating development are to be used systematically for the construction of preventive and intervention measures. His work on the development and prevention of antisociality, crime, prejudice and radicalization has received special attention. He is also known for his integrative research reports on social interventions in the context of meta-analyzes.
