Andrew of Crete , called en Krisei ( Middle Greek ἐν Κρίσει ; † around 766/67), was a monk who is venerated as a saint by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches . His feast day is October 17th, according to the Martyrologium Romanum October 20th.

Life

Andreas was a monk from Crete . Since he advocated the worship of images (see also Byzantine Iconoclasm ), he suffered martyrdom under the Byzantine emperor Konstantinos V Kopronymos in Constantinople . This is said to have been on November 20, 766 or, according to other sources, on October 18, 767. He was buried in the monastery of St. Andrew en Krisei , today's Koca Mustafa Paşa Camii in Istanbul .
