history

A parish church in Ujest was first mentioned in a document in 1295. The current church was built in 1613. It was completely redesigned in the 18th century. In 1864 the two church towers were raised in the neo-Romanesque style. In 1933 a new chancel was added to the church, and a sacristy and a parish hall were built.

Furnishing

The main altar was created in 1823 by the artist Bernhard Kutzer (1794–1864) from Austrian Silesia . Kutzer also created the baptismal font and the pulpit. The elements above the baptismal font depict a scene of Jesus being baptized in the Jordan. Kutzer's works are in the classical style. The side altars were created in the 18th century. An altar shows a mercy seat . The other shows St. Mary with the baby Jesus and St. Barbara and St. Dorothea.

At the church there are three stone tombstones from the 17th century with German inscriptions. They show the deceased in life size, two women and a child. Two more tombstones from the 17th century with embedded elliptical bronze shields.

In the outdoor area there is a column with the figure of St. Nepomuk, as well as a column with St. Joseph with baby Jesus by Johann Melchior Austria from 1744 in rococo style. There is also a vase-shaped tombstone with the inscription Gustav von Ohlen in the churchyard.
