Andrei Nikolajewitsch Lankow ( Russian Андрей Николаевич Ланьков ; born July 26, 1963 in Leningrad ) is a Russian orientalist specializing in Korea . He has become known internationally through his publications on the history of North Korea and is considered one of the most renowned North Korea experts.

Life

Andrei Lankow studied until 1989 at the Faculty of Eastern Science at the Leningrad State University . As part of his studies, he spent almost one year abroad in Pyongyang from 1984-1985 . For his aspirant , Lankow wrote a paper on the medieval history of Korea. He initially stayed at the university, where he taught Korean language and history from 1989 to 1992 . From 1992 to 1996 he worked in South Korea . He then taught Korean language and history at the University of Canberra in Australia until 2004 , from where he again returned to South Korea. Today he works at Kookmin University in Seoul .
