Andrew Raffo Dewar
Andrew Raffo Dewar (* 1975 ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( soprano saxophone , composition) and university professor.
From 1995 Dewar worked in the music scene in Minneapolis, then in New Orleans, in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. He took lessons from Steve Lacy , Anthony Braxton , Phillip Greenlief , Alvin Lucier , Bill Dixon and Milo Fine . He also dealt with traditional Indonesian music and experimental music. He has composed for various ensembles in Indonesia, USA and Japan; He has also received grants and awards from Arts International, Meet The Composer, and the Getty Foundation . Dewar worked a. a. with the Anthony Braxton 12 + 1tet ( 9 Compositions (Iridium) 2006 ) and with the Bill Dixon Orchestra ( 17 Musicians in Search of a Sound: Darfur , 2007). Dewar is Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Arts at New College and the University of Alabama School of Music .
