Andrianjaka

Andrianjaka (* before 1610; † 1630 ), the son of Ralambo , ruled the Imerina in the heart of Madagascar from 1610 until his death in 1630.

Andrianjaka took the Analamanga (blue forest) hill on the highest elevation of today's Antananarivo in 1610 and drove out the resident Vazimba and their king Andriambodilova, who then settled in Ambohimanarina, where he was also buried.

Andrianjaka cleared the blue forest and built his royal seat on the Analamanga hill, the first palace on the site of today's Rova and thus founded the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo. He wished that they would become a thousand, from which the name Antananarivo (ho arivo an-tanana, arivo = 1000) is derived. Andrianjaka had only one son, Andriantsitakatrandriana , who succeeded him in the reign.
