Aneugen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As aneugen a substance is referred to, the cell division and the spindle apparatus so influenced that it to a change in the number of chromosomes and thus to an aneuploidy comes. Mostly, aneugenes disrupt the development of the spindle apparatus and thus the chromosome migration to the effect that one daughter cell with one surplus and one missing chromosome is created. This chromosomal aberration often leads to the death of the cells that have formed.

Since aneugenes only influence cells that are dividing, but not resting cells , aneugenes, like the vinca alkaloids, are also used for the chemotherapy of tumors .
