Anchor forge tower
The anchor forging tower (Pol. Baszta Kotwiczników) is a 1361 built bastion the Danziger urban fortifications. It is located on Ankerschmiedegasse (ulica Kotwiczników) not far from the bank of the Motla River.
After the area enclosed by the city walls was enlarged, the tower lost its military function and was converted into a prison for particularly dangerous criminals by Paulus van der Horne in 1570–1575.
During the war in 1945, the tower was almost completely destroyed, was rebuilt from 1968 to 1969 and in 1975 became the seat of the monument preservation authority of the Gdańsk Voivodeship .
