GeODin is a modular software system for modern data management, which enables the administration of data from geology, geotechnics, monitoring, environment, laboratory and water management. It is used to record layer data from boreholes , the results of geotechnical investigations and other measured values that arise during geoscientific investigations. The program developed for Windows since 1994 (the original name ODIN was changed to GeODin in order to clarify the relation to geodata) is now available in version 9. GeODin is available in German, English, French, Italian and Russian. It is distributed via the developer's website.

features

GeODin supports numerous standards (e.g. DIN EN ISO 22475) for recording drilling profiles and has the option of largely freely defining parameters, such as for groundwater levels or chemical - physical analysis data of water samples. In addition, GeODin has extensive options for displaying the collected data. There are drill columns , strokes charts for piling and penetration tests are available. Water levels and water chemistry can be displayed in different diagrams or hydrographs .

Data management

The administration and research of the recorded drilling points and measured values is of great importance. Since the data management on SQL - databases based, are appropriate ways to query the databases available. Microsoft Access databases are used in the basic versions ; there is also the option of connecting client-server databases. In addition, the program supports so-called shift queries for the analysis of shift data, which cannot be done with conventional SQL queries.

The data is managed in the form of objects for static data, which are generally not changed after they have been recorded. This includes coordinates and other location data, shift data and data from soundings. The property types were specially developed for the collection of data according to certain standards; an adaptation to customer specifications is possible.

Different data types are available for measured values, for which the recorded parameters can be selected and also defined yourself.

Interfaces to other geographic information systems

Some extensions were developed to connect the program to the geographic information systems ArcView and ArcGIS . In addition, there are interfaces to other information systems, such as the Environmental Information System (UIS) of the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG).

There are also modules with which data can be generated for web-based display. The borehole data from some state databases are made available to the public via GeODin. Other companies have developed additional modules for GeODin.
