Alter Kernhof in the center of Denning

The Alte Kernhof in Munich is the last remaining courtyard in the historic hamlet of Denning . It is located in the district of 13 Bogenhausen at Denninger Strasse 233 and is now home to a restaurant .

history

The Alte Kernhof was originally called "beim Kögl", "Köglhof" or "Keglhof". In the 17th and 18th centuries it was owned by the Ettal Abbey . In the 19th century the farm became the property of the Kern family, which is why it is now called Kernhof.

In 1876 Thaddäus Kern built a brick factory on the property belonging to the farm , which, with an annual production of around 2.2 million bricks, developed into Dennings' second largest brick factory. In 1893 he built a new house instead of the previous one. After receiving a license to sell food and drinks, he set up a restaurant there. His son Josef, who inherited the farm in 1897, built a new house in 1899, the old core courtyard, which is still preserved today.

In 1920 the brickyard in the Kernhof was demolished. In the years that followed, the land was increasingly sold and served to expand the Denninger colony . In 1937 the farm buildings that were used for agriculture were also demolished, only the main building with the restaurant remained.

Although the district committee had already approved a new building for the old core courtyard in 1988, the building has been spared demolition to this day.

description

The old core courtyard is a three-storey building with a floor area of around 34 × 16 m. It has a steep gable roof that extends down to the top of the first floor. The gable side facing Denninger Straße has 5 window axes, on the second floor there are three more. The second floor has only two small dormers with one window on the east side and an elongated one with five windows on the west side.

Today the building belongs to the Aying Brewery . An Italian restaurant is currently set up there.
