Apprenticeship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An apprenticeship is a one, one and a half or two year Swiss vocational training and is completed by young people who are unlikely to successfully complete the two to four year regular apprenticeship . Reasons for this can be both the social environment and physical disabilities .

Anlehre and similar concepts also exist in Austria.

Switzerland

Cantonal and federal apprenticeships

history

The roots of the Anlehre go back to the late 1960s. The first apprenticeship workshops emerged in an uncoordinated manner and only in a few cantons. It was not until 1978 that the Anlehre was secured by an article of law at the federal level. The first (federal) training cards were issued in 1980.

rating

In spite of the low requirements and individual support, the apprenticeship is a regulated vocational training that is intended to enable the apprentice to work in other companies. The training is more practical than regular vocational training.

replacement

In Switzerland, from 2005 the “two-year basic education with certificate” took the place of the apprenticeship. In some sectors (e.g. sales, gastronomy) the first qualifications according to the new education ordinance took place in spring 2007, the other sectors will follow in the coming years. The (school) requirements of the two-year basic education are generally somewhat higher than for the apprenticeship. Since, in contrast to the apprenticeship, a final examination has to be taken, a minimum program is required of the learners. The two-year basic training with certificate has the advantage for the graduates compared to the apprenticeship that the transition to the normal apprenticeship is simplified (e.g. entry into the second year of the apprenticeship after receiving the certificate).

IV-Anlehre and practical training PrA

In addition to the cantonal or federally regulated apprenticeship, there was also the IV apprenticeship. This lasts a maximum of two years and was again under the actual apprenticeship.

The IV-Anlehren were subordinate to the Federal Social Insurance Office. The requirements varied from canton to canton and institution to institution. It was therefore even more difficult to compare the skills acquired than with the actual apprenticeship.

The effectiveness and thus eligibility of the IV-Anlehre is controversial. Disabled people's associations defended themselves against saving efforts.

Practical training PrA is to be seen as a further development of the IV Anlehre. The PrA practical training is intended to replace the IV apprenticeships in the medium term.

Austria

In Austria there are the following names for similar offers:

  • Apprenticeship
  • Training to become a qualified helper
  • Partial qualification teaching

In Austria, since a change in the law in August 2003, it is officially possible to complete a partial qualification or an extended apprenticeship.
