Ann-Kristin Hamm (* 1977 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German painter.

Life

Ann-Kristin Hamm studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1998 to 2004, first with Dieter Krieg and then with Albert Oehlen . Numerous exhibitions followed, including solo exhibitions in Vienna, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. A catalog was published for the exhibition at the Bundesbank in Frankfurt in 2006.

Ann-Kristin Hamm's large-format paintings show a remarkable vehemence that drives the contrast between space and two-dimensionality, between the seemingly figurative and the abstract. Your art creates confusion. It never shows concrete forms, rather memories of familiar things are triggered, such as snails, butterflies, flowers or fans. The pictures release associations, but never show concrete things. Like a game with shapes and colors, the pictures dance between abstraction and objectivity. Chance is used as a design principle, for example when splashes of paint or splashes appear, rivulets of poured paint can be seen or traces of sneakers that seem to have got onto the canvases.

The explosive forms are always in motion. Spatiality is revealed through the multi-layered superposition of numerous image levels. A before and after can be felt. Almost like collages, the individual parts come together to form a whole. Surfaces are painted over, deeper parts of the picture can be guessed at. Ann-Kristin Hamm has also been painting on record sleeves since 2007. Her method of using collage techniques is carried further here by leaving parts of the motifs on the covers and painting over the rest. The records are completely painted, the round shape and size of which are predetermined and to which she contrasts her pictorial motifs.
