The National Park Annapurna is a protected area in Nepal . It was designated in 1992 and is 7,629 km² in size. Annapurna National Park was named after Annapurna , an eight-thousander in the Himalayas . It is a popular destination for trekking travelers. The establishment of the Annapurna National Park was promoted in the 1980s by the WWF , among others . In contrast to other protected areas, the inhabitants were given the opportunity to use the natural resources of the Annapurna region.
