The Nahuelbuta National Park ( Spanish Parque Nacional Nahuelbuta ) is a protected area in the so-called " little south " of Chile . It is north of the Araucania Region ( Araucanía ) and also part of the province of Arauco covers about 35 km west of the city of Angol . The park was designated in 1939 and is 68.31 km² in size. Extensive pine forests are characteristic of the national park . The low mountain range of the park belongs to the coastal mountains of Chile , which enclose the Chilean longitudinal valley between the Andes cordillera and the low mountain range of the coastal region. The most popular vantage point is the Piedra El Águila summit (1,460 m), from which hikers have a wide view of the Pacific in the west and the mighty backdrop of the six-thousanders in the east.
