The Anne-Frank-Gymnasium Erding (AFG Erding) is a grammar school . It is located south of the city center at the city park of Erding and offers two training courses: a scientific-technological and a linguistic one.

history

First years

The grammar school was founded in 1938. The building had been used as a school by the Order of the Poor School Sisters since the 19th century . In 1938 the National Socialist regime dissolved the monastery school and rededicated the building; the advanced school opened on April 26, 1938 (the school year began in spring) and was initially only intended for girls, but boys were granted hospitality rights. In 1941, a new type of school was set up with the 6-class high school for boys.

In the spring of 1945 a refugee camp was set up in the school building. In November 1945 classes could be temporarily resumed, but there was a lack of books, heating material, teachers and rooms, because in autumn 1945 their former school building was returned to the Order of Poor School Sisters. The 6-class high school for boys, called "Oberrealschule", was expanded to include an upper level. In October 1951, the new building on the Heilig-Geist-Wiese began.

1950s and 1960s

In April 1953, 11 classes were able to move into the first construction phase, which was expanded until 1961. The building, which was designed for 400 students, soon became too narrow. In 1963 the district of Erding took over the sponsorship of the school from the city. In 1966 the modern language branch was introduced. In 1969 there were 878 students.

1970s to today

In autumn 1970 the school took part in the “ Cooperative Comprehensive School ” trial. In 1971 a school experiment was started to redesign the upper level, which in 1977 led to the introduction of the college level at all Bavarian high schools. In 1984 the school theater group was awarded the Erding District Culture Prize.

In 1999, the 30-year partnership with the partner school Lycée Freppel in Obernai was celebrated . The school also set up exchange programs with Italy, England, Australia, the USA and Poland. In 2000, the Erding grammar school took part in a school experiment entitled “Eight-year cycle through the grammar school”.

On August 1, 2005, the school was given the name Anne-Frank-Gymnasium Erding by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture . Before the naming ceremony on July 7, 2006, the school organized an Anne Frank exhibition in June in cooperation with the Anne Frank Center Berlin.
