Anophthalmia

Under anophthalmia (from ancient Greek ἀν- Toggle , see Alpha privativum and ὄφθαλμος ophthalmos "eye") refers to the congenital absence of the eye system . One-sided anophthalmia is called monophthalmia (one-eyedness).

It occurs relatively frequently in Patau syndrome ( trisomy 13), Fraser syndrome , Bakrania-Ragge syndrome and holoprosencephaly , and occasionally also in Toriello syndrome .
