Since the series of attacks, many rubbish bins in Paris have been replaced by easily visible rubbish bags to prevent bomb attacks.

The series of attacks in Paris in 1995 is a series of at least eight attacks on trains of the Paris Métro and RER of the Islamist terror group GIA . Eight people died and another 200 were injured in a total of three bomb explosions.

consequences

The day after the bombing of the TGV high-speed train in August 1995, the number of passengers fell by around 30 percent.

Interior Minister Jean-Louis Debre put in place an emergency plan after the attack on September 7th. 20,000 police officers, 2,500 soldiers and 9,000 customs officers were also used for surveillance at airports, train stations, borders, power plants and museums. Around 7,000 rubbish bins were screwed on or removed in Paris.

In 2006, the Algerian Rachid Ramda was sentenced to ten years in prison in France for supporting terrorist attacks.

Possible connections to other attacks

On October 31, 1995, 14 days after the third attack in Paris, a small group of militant Islamists was arrested in Lille in northern France. Police said they were caught preparing for a bomb attack on a weekly market.

Another attack in December 1996

This attack took place on December 3, 1996. Even before a train on the RER line B departed from Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle station, a 14 kg gas cylinder hidden in a blue sack had been deposited on the train. This later exploded in Port-Royal train station. 4 people were killed; 170 people were injured. It is believed that the attack was also carried out by the GIA.
