Stiffen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The stiffening marks the initial stage in the conversion of cement to cement paste in concrete or mortar . This process is known as hydration . This is followed by the solidification phase with a duration of 12 hours and the subsequent hardening after one hour at the earliest .

The stiffening begins immediately after the components cement, aggregate and added water have been mixed . The building material can be processed during the setting phase. If processing is continued in the subsequent solidification phase, hydration can no longer proceed completely. The consequence is lower strength values after hardening.
