Antonio José Cabral

António José Cabral (* 1949 ) is a Portuguese economist.

Career

Cabral studied economics and graduated from the Instituto Superior de Economia in Lisbon in 1971 . After his military service he joined the Portuguese Ministry of Planning in 1975, where he was entrusted with economic analyzes and forecasts. In 1978 he moved to the research department of the Banco de Portugal and was appointed its deputy director in 1986.

In November 1988 he moved to the European Commission and held various positions in the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs . He was initially a consultant, from 1989 head of department, from 1992 director of the economics department and from May 2002 deputy head of the general management. Since November 2004 he has been an advisor to Commission President José Manuel Barroso .

From 1972 to 1975 he taught at the Instituto Superior de Economia. From 1976 to 1988 he was an assistant at the Catholic University of Portugal .
