Anthracosis

As anthracosis (άνθραξ of gr., Coal ') refers to a form of pneumoconiosis , by the deposition of soot particles is triggered in the lungs (congestion of the self-cleaning mechanism of the lungs due to excessive exposure ). It can also occur together with a silicosis (anthracosilicosis).

Anthracosis is usually uncomplicated and does not lead to lung damage like silicosis, since the soot particles have significantly less cell-damaging effects than free silicate . With years of excessive exposure, however, the clinical picture can become more complicated and massive, progressive pulmonary fibrosis develops.
