Anthro (Greek anthropos "human") is the title of a series of comic books published by the US publisher DC-Comics since 1968.

The Anthro-Comics are about the adventures of a cave boy of the same name who lives in a post-apocalyptic future in which mankind has been returned to the cultural state of the Stone Age.

Publications on Anthro

The main character and scenario of Anthro were developed by cartoonist Howard Post in the 1960s . The first anthro-story appeared in May 1968 in issue # 74 of the Showcase anthology series . After this test story posted satisfactory sales figures, the same year the company started its own continuous anthro series, which appeared every two months, but ran for just under a year and was discontinued in 1969 with issue # 6. All six issues of the series were written and drawn by Post, while Inker Wallace Wood did the ink revisions of Post's pencil drawings.

Since then, the anthro concept has been revived again and again for a short time; Most recently, Anthro was promoted to one of the feature characters in the series Tales of the Unexpected and Final Crisis .

action

Anthro describes the adventures of the young Anthros, a hunter of a tribe of Stone Age people who call themselves the bear tribe and is led by Anthro's father Nee-Ahn. The Anthro stories are naturally filled with the various - historically often not guaranteed or even proven false - clichés of the Stone Age , as they have established themselves in popular memory: In Anthro's world , for example, there are mastodons , saber-toothed tigers , mammoths , erupting volcanoes and the like on the agenda.
