Antidosis
Antidosis ( Greek ἀντίδοσις , literally counter-gift, exchange) was a legal remedy of the Attic legal system against the use of services.
Application for asset swap
The obligation to a Leiturgie ( λειτουργία , leiturgia ) such as the implementation of the annual theater performances or the construction of warships resulted from lists of the wealthiest members of a deme , which were drawn up on the basis of property information. A citizen to be called upon to attend a liturgy had the opportunity to name another who was richer and more suitable for the honorable but burdensome task. If the named admitted that he was richer, he had to take over the liturgy. However, if he claimed to be poorer, whoever had named him could force a court order that both of them exchanged their entire fortune; as the new owner of what is considered to be the greater property, he then had to fulfill the liturgy.
This exchange of assets, which was called the antidosis and is said to go back to a law of Solon , represented a subtle instrument with which the suspicions of the rich were directed against other kingdoms rather than the state.
While some antidose challenges have been passed down, there is no documented case where the swap actually took place.
Isocrates, antidosis speech
The Antidosis speech of Isocrates ( Περὶ τῆς ἀντιδόσεως ) is not held, fictitious court speech that the speaker v 354/353. Chr., An autobiographical old work in which Isocrates against the indictment because of his pernicious influence on the youth, his life, his - in his view often misunderstood - character and the fundamentals of his educational concept of the Athenian public in praiseworthy tones. Due to its autobiographical and historical value, the speech is an interesting document of the literature of the 4th century BC. Chr.
