Anton Schomberg was a mayor in Brilon .

Life

With 33 years of service, Schomberg was the mayor with the longest period of service. He was in office from 1871 to 1904. In 1882 and 1894 he was unanimously re-elected for twelve years each.

He was active in the committees of the schools, the high school and the hospital in an advisory or management role.

In 1875 he had to reluctantly, on instructions of the because of the May Laws bring indicted Kaplan City Teipel, from his home and escort him out of the circle area. Teipel was later rehabilitated.

On August 16, 1886, during his term in office, the last great fire in Brilon took place, 17 houses burned down in the Kreuziger quarter. In Schomberg's annual report, he mentions total damage totaling 25,720 marks. At his instruction, the burned-down area is not built again haphazardly, but a road is built.

In 1890, under his leadership, the water pipeline was installed in Brilon. Other important measures during his tenure were the construction of the new hospital, the forester's house on the Hoppecke, the expansion of the boys' school and the grammar school. During his time the volunteer fire brigade was founded; the Möhnetalbahn and the railway from Brilon - Wald to Geseke were put into operation.
