Antonius Heuglin , also Anton Heuglin (* before 1535; † 1578 in Lobeda ) was a German theologian and university librarian.

Life

Around 1535 Antonius Heuglin became ducal librarian at the court of Elector Johann Friedrich I in Wittenberg and Torgau (?) And held this office for 19 years. In 1538 he was mentioned as a baccalaureate and tutor of the two older sons of the elector. After Johann Friedrich I had lost part of his territory and the electoral dignity as a result of the Schmalkaldic War , Heuglin was responsible for moving the princely library to the Dominican monastery in Jena and thus for building the new Jena university library . In 1554 he had to give up this office because the sovereign demanded that he take over the vacant pastorate in Lobeda. He took up this office in January 1555 and held it until his death in 1578. In contrast to its predecessor in office, it appeared as a very strict and pious pastor and watched over the observance of moral and Christian duties, such as participation in the Lord's Supper and in confession.
