drive wheel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The drive wheel or the drive wheels are used for the independent movement of wheeled vehicles.

For example, on motorcycles or most bicycles, the rear wheel is the drive wheel that transmits the power of the engine or human to the road and moves the vehicle.

In cars , trucks or locomotives , only some of the wheels are usually used for power transmission. In this context, a distinction is made between front and rear-wheel drive vehicles . In all -wheel drive vehicles , on the other hand, all wheels are driven.

Vehicles pulled (e.g. trailers ) or pushed vehicles ( e.g. wheelbarrows ) and scooters have no drive wheels.
