Anufo (people)

The Anufo are an ethnic group in Togo , Benin and Ghana that is also called Chokosi , Chakosi , Kyokosi , Tchokossi or Tiokossi .

Between 57,800 and 64,000 people of this ethnic group live in Togo. Around 66,000 to 70,000 of them live in Ghana. In Benin, the sources give between 13,800 and 17,000 members of this ethnic group. The language they speak is called Anufo .

The Anufo once had their own state, the Chokossi monarchy .

The Anufo live mainly in the savannah country on the border between Togo and Ghana. The Anufo belong mainly to Islam, around 10% are Christians, another part of the population is followers of traditional religions.
