Presence simulation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The simulation of the presence of apartment users in the event of temporary absence is intended to protect against burglary . Building automation systems operate systems in the apartment that can be observed from outside in accordance with regular usage behavior:

  • Shutters or blinds are opened and closed
  • Lights in the rooms of the apartment are switched on and off
  • Noises can be heard from the radio or TV set that is switched on at times
  • Lawn sprinklers are switched on and off.

This gives a potential intruder outside the apartment the impression that the users of the apartment are present. However, this can only succeed if the following things are also taken into account:

  • the mailbox must not overflow because of unemptied mail
  • the phone must be forwarded
  • Leaves and foliage must not remain on the access path or driveway for long periods of time.
  • the intercom should be answered
