Apache Forrest is an XML publishing - Framework of the Apache Software Foundation .

It arose from the need to document software projects, but is now also suitable for creating other websites . The content to be published is usually stored as XML data, which Forrest can then convert into the appropriate output format - HTML or PDF - using XSLT. Since it is based on Apache Cocoon , numerous other input or output formats are possible.

The current version is 0.9 from February 7, 2011; Events from 2009 are listed as future on the project homepage. (As of December 2017).

In December 2019, the Apache Forrest PMC (Project Management Committee) approved a retirement. The ASF Board decided this in the February 2020 meeting (minutes will be published after approval in the next meeting).
