Pharmacy retail price

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pharmacy retail price (AVP, even pharmacies selling price ) is the selling price of pharmacies for drugs and is calculated from the pharmacy purchasing price ( medicine pricing from manufacturers and delivery) plus a pharmacy mark ( pharmacy margin ) plus VAT .

In Germany it represents the price at which a pharmacy can settle a drug with the statutory health insurance. For prescription drugs, the surcharge is calculated according to the current version of the drug price ordinance; for non-prescription drugs , Section 129 of the fifth book of the Social Code is used.

Since the 2004 health reform , non-prescription drugs have, with a few exceptions, no longer been reimbursed by statutory health insurance. Pharmacies can set the prices themselves for drugs that are not dispensed at the expense of the statutory health insurance.

The AVP must be distinguished from the non-binding pharmacy retail price ( UAVP), which is a counterpart to the generally known recommended retail price (UVP).

The AVP is reported to the information center for medicinal specialties (IFA, Frankfurt am Main) and made available to pharmacies, as well as pharmaceutical professional groups, pharmaceutical companies and health insurance companies, for example via the so-called Lauer tax .

Situation in Austria

In Austria, insured persons with statutory health insurances (compulsory insurance) pay a prescription fee for medication that is prescribed on a prescription if they are not exempt from the prescription fee. It is collected by the pharmacy and offset against the health insurer (the pharmacies are reimbursed for the expenses for medication and pharmacy services from the health insurers ).

Regardless of the actual price of the medication, the prescription fee is 6.00 euros (as of January 1, 2018) per medication package. However, if the full price of the pack is less than the prescription fee, only this is to be paid.
