List of breeds of chicken

The Appenzeller Barthuhn is an old breed of chicken from the Appenzellerland ( Switzerland ), which is looked after by the ProSpecieRara . The people of Appenzell call her "Bartli".

history

The Appenzeller Barthuhn was bred from Polveraras and partridge-colored Italians around 1860 . This breed is not very common in Central Europe and especially in Switzerland. The existing dwarf form exists in both Switzerland and Germany. Thanks to the activity of ProSpecieRara , the Appenzeller Barthuhn was saved from extinction from 1985 onwards.

Appearance

The Appenzeller Barthuhn has an almost rectangular body shape with broad shoulders and a medium-long, slightly sloping back. The bulge of the breast in the hen is striking. The thighs are heavily feathered. The name is derived from the undivided chin and whiskers, which conceal wattles and ear discs. This robust country hen is very vital, a very good layer and especially well suited for rough climates. The breed is rose-combed.

The lining should not be too mushy to avoid sticking the beard. These chickens are also fast growing and breed very well.
