Application delivery controller

An application delivery controller ( ADC , German  application delivery controller ) is a network device that takes on several security functions in a computer network , especially in cloud computing . An ADC is used between the firewall and the demilitarized zone (DMZ).

The tasks of an ADC typically include security in the transport or application layer , protection against distributed denial of service attacks, various routing strategies , server health monitoring, load balancing .

An ADC also serves to accelerate the delivery of websites. For this purpose, TLS encryption, Dynamic Site Acceleration (DSA), Front-End Optimization (FEO), the delivery of mobile content (e.g. AMP / CPP ), caching and data compression can be taken over by the ADC.
