The Aquaglobus is an assemblable water tower construction made of steel. It belongs to the type series of metal water towers that were developed in Hungary around 1966.

Aquaglobus with rope anchoring

This type consists of a free-standing circular shaft that is anchored in a reinforced concrete foundation. The spherical water tank is surrounded by a thermal insulation layer made of glass wool and a jacket made of sheet aluminum. Thanks to the modular design, the prefabricated parts can be assembled into a tower container in a short installation time (a few weeks). The net capacity of the spherical container can be between 50 and 300 m³, depending on the requirements. Another version of this water tank is called a hydroglobe . The connection to the foundation is made by a ball joint. Additional bracing using ropes attached to the side is necessary.

Many of these water tanks were used, among other things, in larger industrial companies in the GDR , and they often served as an emergency water supply.
