Route of the Aqueduc de la Dhuis

The Aqueduc de la Dhuis (also spelled Dhuys ) is an approximately 130 km long underground aqueduct from the Aisne department to Paris .

The Aqueduc de la Dhuis created in the years 1863 to 1865 was the first line to improve the water supply of Paris, the Eugène Belgrand at the instigation of Georges-Eugène Haussmann within the framework of Napoléon III. desired urban renewal.

The aqueduct begins in Pargny-la-Dhuys, where it receives the water from the Dhuis river ( ) and ends in the Réservoir de Ménilmontant in Paris ( ). Today, however, it is primarily used to supply Disneyland Paris 32 km east of Paris. World iconWorld icon

The line has a very slight gradient . On the distance of 130 km, the difference in altitude is only 20 m, which corresponds to a gradient of 1: 6500. However, the gradient is sufficient to allow the water to flow through gravity alone. The average flow rate is 22,000 m³ / day.

The line crosses 21 valleys, which are overcome with culverts. There is an inspection access approximately every 500 m. Milestones are lined up along the line.

The Aqueduc de la Dhuis was operated by Eau de Paris , the Parisian waterworks. In 2015, the upper part of Pargny-la-Dhuys as far as Chessy was sold to the Val d'Europe Agglomération municipal association, which supplies Disneyland Paris with water.
