history
Aquilana Insurance was founded on May 7, 1892 as the company health insurance fund of Brown, Boveri & Cie. founded and integrated the company health insurance funds of MFO (1978), Maag Zahnräder AG (1991), and Bucher Guyer AG (1992).
Until the end of 1995, only ABB employees and their family members were insured under the mandatory company policy. With the introduction of the Health Insurance Act KVG, the health insurance market was liberalized in 1996. In the direction of independence, the Asea Brown Boveri health insurance company broke away completely from ABB in 1997 and traded under the new name “Health Insurance Aquilana” (Latin: aquila “Adler”). The company name was changed on January 1, 2006 to the current name «Aquilana Insurance».
