The ar-rim island ( Arabic جزيرة الريم Jazīrat ar-Rīm , DMG Ǧazīrat ar-Rīm ; English Al Reem Island ) is a residential, financial, tourism and business project in Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates .

The new district is being developed on the roughly 7 square kilometer ar-Rim island, a natural but coastal island 220 to 500 meters east of the coast of Abu Dhabi, by the companies Sorouh ( Shams Abu Dhabi ), Reem Investments and Tamouh .

Four districts for around 55,000 people were planned on the island, which should have direct access to the sea either with their own marina or via a lagoon-like inland canal:

  1. Shams Abu Dhabi (north)
  2. City of Lights (center)
  3. Marina Square (West)
  4. The Cove (northwest)

The island is getting an unusually high development for Abu Dhabi with around a dozen high skyscrapers in the center, including the RAK Tower and the Tala Tower . Some of these towers will be 350 to over 400 meters high and will clearly tower above the comparatively low city buildings on the main island.

The development of the developed building plots began in 2007, and the first apartments were handed over in 2011. However, many projects have been postponed or canceled due to funding difficulties.
