Scheme of the Arachne stitching machine (labeling in Czech)

Arachne refers to a product of the sewing technique based on a fiber fleece and the machine that produces this fleece. The development was based on the patent filed by Josef Zmatlik in Czechoslovakia in 1949. The start of production of textile fabrics on the Arachne stitchbonding machine took place in 1958. The Arachne machine works according to the same principle as that used for the manufacture of Maliwatt , only differs in the arrangement and construction of the individual working elements and the drive:

  • The guide rail is offset by means of sample wheel gears or bevel gears, on the other hand, by crank gears on Mal machines, which means that the working speed of Maliwatt machines is higher
  • the feed of the base material (fleece) takes place at the work place from bottom to top, on Maliwatt machines from top to bottom,
  • The Arachne machine has a closed slide-lock-wire system, a tubular needle, in the opening of which the lock wire slides, the needle hook is open at the bottom
  • the stitchbonding tools are arranged at an angle to the horizontal.

In addition to fringe and cloth are tricot own spreads , Atlas own spreads and Schusslegungen possible.

The name Arachne (old Greek Ἀράχνη Aráchnē (Sg.f.), 'spider') is reminiscent of a weaver in Greek mythology. This challenged Athena, among other things, the Greek goddess of art, craft and handicraft, to a competition in the field of weaving art, which she won confidently.
