Arami Ullón

Arami Ullón (born 1978 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan film director and producer who lives in Switzerland.

Career

Ullón traveled from Asunción to Basel for love when he was 16 . The desired relationship did not develop, but she met some Swiss people and stayed for a while. Then she returned to Paraguay and shot commercials and experimental shorts there. In 2000 she directed the play Un extraño asunto de amor . In 2000 and 2001 she studied film on a scholarship from the now-defunct Boston Film and Video Foundation . She also worked as a production assistant, u. a. for O Toque do Oboé . When she was working in Europe for a while at the age of around 28, she also visited an old Swiss friend named Patrick and the two fell in love and started a long-distance relationship. In 2011 Ullón moved to Basel. When her mother's health deteriorated, Ullón returned to Paraguay to take care of her, but also to make a documentary about her mother. Filming lasted nine weeks and was not easy for the director. The documentary film about her mother, who has epilepsy and Parkinson's disease, is called El tiempo nublado ("Cloudy Times").

Award and first Oscar submission in Paraguay

El tiempo nublado won the Basel Film Prize 2015. The film is Paraguay's first submission to the Oscars.
