Working group of churches and religious societies
The AKR - Working Group of Churches and Religious Societies is an interreligious forum that was founded in Berlin in 1947 to revive religious life in Berlin after the war. This idea found support from several religious communities at the time and continues to this day with other goals. AKRs are also found in Hamburg, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Goals and Activities
In the preamble of the AKR Berlin it says:
"... supported by the will to stand up for the values and freedom of religious activity in mutual respect for their independence ..."
The focus of the AKR work is currently on discussion forums, adult education courses and prayer sessions on DeutschlandRadio Berlin. It is also the contact point for the media and the general public looking for information on the various member communities in Berlin.
