Working group of parliamentary and government libraries
The Working Group of Parliament and Authority Libraries (APBB) represents the interests of parliament and authority-owned libraries and documentation centers. It advises its member libraries, promotes the professional network, organizes further training events, maintains connections to the library professional associations and other associations, associations and bodies.
history
In 1955 the commission of parliamentary and official libraries was founded by the Association of German Librarians and has been working as an independent organization under its current name since 1957.
tasks
The working group focuses on the following areas of responsibility:
- Organization of specialist meetings and workshops as part of the annual German Librarianship Day. At the same time, the member meetings take place there.
- Training events on topics specially tailored to the needs of the member libraries. Current topics include a .: organizational and management issues, electronic media, one-person libraries (OPL) and open data.
- Issuing a regular publication for the members, in which current topics are presented.
- Individual advice to member libraries from specialist colleagues.
- Regular exchange of information, etc. a. by maintaining a website.
Member libraries
The APBB currently has around 500 member libraries of various sizes, structures and tasks. These libraries include a .:
- Parliamentary Libraries
- Court libraries
- Federal, state and local authority libraries
- Libraries of federal and state institutions
- Corporate libraries (e.g. chambers of industry and commerce)
- Libraries of church institutions.
Board
The members are led by a board and represented externally. The board consists of up to 15 members who are elected every two years during the general meeting. The current business is conducted by the chairman.
collaboration
The APBB works with numerous related library organizations. There is particularly close contact with the Association for Legal Libraries and Documentation (AjBD) and the specialist groups "Government Libraries" and "Libraries and Research Services for Parliaments" of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions IFLA ).
Publications
Until the end of 2012, the working group was the publisher of
- Workbooks (printed once or twice a year)
- Mitteilungen (published several times a year).
Since 2013, the workbooks and the communications have been merged into one publication: the new publication APBB aktuell appears online once a year. The first issue was published in May 2013. The online publication APBB aktuell can only be accessed in the members' area of the website for the first twelve months after it was published, after which the issue is generally accessible on the website.
