In July 2018, the Federal Government Kurz I passed a new Working Hours Act despite massive protests from the union and the SPÖ. Among other things, the maximum daily working time was increased from 10 to 12 hours, whereby a 12-hour working day was already possible, but only with the approval of the works council (works agreement). With this new maximum daily working time, Austria is now in the middle of the EU field.
