Arbetsmiljöverket is a state administrative and supervisory authority in Sweden . The seat of the authority, founded in 1890 as Yrkesinspektiven , is Stockholm . Arbetsmiljöverket was created in 2001 by merging the eleven regional authorities of the Yrkesinspektiven and Arbetarskyddsstyrelsen . The authority has 550 employees and a budget of around 500 million crowns (around 55 million euros). The legal basis for the work of the authority are the Occupational Health and Safety Act ( arbetsmiljölagen ) and the regulation for Arbetsmiljöverket.

tasks

Arbetsmiljöverkets' task is to prevent damage to health in the workplace ( occupational safety ). These include in detail:

  • Elaboration of guidelines and information material on all aspects of the working environment (including ergonomics of workplaces, noise, working with hazardous substances, working at high and low temperatures, working with laser and radioactive radiation, ventilation and lighting)
  • Opinion on draft laws affecting the working environment
  • Control of workplaces and, if necessary, collection of fines if applicable regulations are violated
  • Regulations on mandatory and recommended medical examinations for certain professional groups
  • Equipment and training requirements for first aid
  • Ordering research reports on different areas of the working environment
  • Investigating accidents and potentially dangerous incidents in the workplace
  • Implementation of EU directives in Swedish guidelines
