Dubrava arboretum

The Dubrava Arboretum is a center for the introduction and research of dendroflora in Girionys , in the district of Kaunas , Lithuania , on the RK1902 highway ( Vaišvydava –Girionys– Žiegždriai ). The dendrological collections are protected here. The territory of the arboretum is 51.5 hectares. There are more than 1,000 taxonomic units (species, subspecies , varieties and cultivars ) of plants.

history

The arboretum was built in 1958. At that time it was a department of the Dubrava Forest Research Station. Now it belongs to the Dubrava Forest District . In 2000, the status of dendrological collection was awarded by the Ministry of Environment of Lithuania . It has been a natural heritage object since then . From 2004 to 2006 a valuable exposition of the rare plants was set up at the forest college . Among these plants there are many species and varieties that have not yet been planted in the arboretum. In 2006 a new administration and laboratory building was built, specially equipped for scientific and educational activities.
