history

1960 began to set up the residence in the western part of the village Raguoliai near Kauno marios . The construction work was led by the Dubravos miškų tyrimo stotis forestry institute , which managed the Dubrava forest .

The name Dubrava was spread by the truck drivers who carried the building materials and looked not for Raguoliai but for Dubrava and asked the residents accordingly. They began to call the place Dubrava . The employees of the Miškų institute and the Kaunas forest technology center did not want their place of work and residence to be Raguoliai . The institute's staff applied to the government of Lithuania to name the place Girionys . The place was founded in 1964 on the initiative of the forest scientist Antanas Kvedaras (1887–1967) as a location for forestry (vocational training, teaching, research) and science (forestry and environmental sciences as well as dendrology).
