The Miškų institutas (dt. 'Forest Institute', lit. Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centro filialas Miškų institutas ) is a research institute for forest science and ecology in Lithuania . It has a joint doctoral degree with Lietuvos žemės ūkio universitetas and the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas . The seat is in Girionys village , Kaunas district (Liepų g. 1).

history

The institute was established in Kaunas in 1950 and moved to Girionys in 1963. In Soviet Lithuania there were Lietuvos miškų ūkio mokslinio tyrimo institutas . The institute has been a member of IUFRO since 1995 and works with institutes in Scandinavia , Germany, Poland and Latvia . In 2008, the Lithuanian Forest Institute employed 25 employees, including two habilitated doctors and 20 doctors. On January 22nd, 2010 the institute became a branch of Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centras .
