International Association of Forest Research Institutes
The International Union of Forest Research Organizations , shortly IUFRO (of English. International Union of Forest Research Organizations ) is a global network for cooperation in the field of forest sciences . The association, based in Vienna, brings together more than 15,000 scientists in over 700 member organizations in more than 110 countries. The International Association of Forest Research Institutes was founded on the initiative of the Prussian Forest Research Institute in Eberswalde in 1892 . IUFRO is a member of the international umbrella association of scientific societies and academies ICSU . The cooperation of the scientists in IUFRO is based on a purely voluntary basis.
The task of the IUFRO is to promote the coordination and international cooperation of scientific studies in the entire field of forests, trees and the sustainable use of forests . Every year the IUFRO organizes an annual conference in different countries.
